Maintenance and repair operations continue to suffer from a
lack of circuit diagrams. The shortage has been caused, in part,
by the restrictive practices of OEMs and by the increased use of
electronic systems in industry. Also, there is a growing
problem where the original suppliers no longer exist or are
unable to provide support. This is especially severe for users
of systems with a long service life
ABI REVENG offers an effective method of creating professional
quality circuit diagrams from a sample board. The REVENG system
comprises a PC controlled continuity measuring hardware system,
RevWin control software and EdWin, a fully featured CAD package
REVENG learns the connectivity of a sample circuit then produces
a NetList (a list of the components and connections). The
NetList is imported into EdWin to create professional quality
circuit diagrams
Learning is by clips, connectors and probes that are attached to
clusters of components. RevWin guides the operator to place and
walk the clips around the reference circuit
RevWin generates the most efficient sequence of clip
combinations and movements to learn all possible connections
The learned data can be confirmed using a verification facility
The operator can modify and override the automatic placement of
the clips if necessary
To minimise operator errors, the system applies an Orientation
Check and Pin Check to confirm clip contact and position
REVENG measures the resistance between the component pins. The
short circuit threshold is set at 7 ohms. The compliance is 5
volts into an open circuit and 10 ma into a short circuit.
Typically the system delivers 10 uA into a circuit
ABI REVENG learns without applying power to the board and
limits the applied voltage and current so that semiconductor
gates are not affected and it is safe to use even on low power
technologies
There is a wide range of IC clips and connectors. If a clip or
connector is not available or cannot be fitted due to the
physical constraints of the board then the hand held PROBE and
BUZZER facilities are used
A NetList is a valuable document in test engineering and
maintenance support.
- For test engineers to trace signals
- As input to CAD package
- As data input for ate programs
The NetList is imported, then the components are placed and
the signals routed automatically. Drawings can be customised to
create bus structures and multi-page schematics. Finished
drawings can be output to any Windows plotters and printers.
There are over 12,000 components in the library. New and
custom devices can be added easily without knowledge of their
content or function.
REVENG 2000 was designed in the UK to provide an effective
solution that overcomes the restrictions imposed by alternative
methods. It is not limited by the size and complexity of the
circuit or the component technology used
There is a wide range of standard clips and connectors for
DIL, SIL, PLCC, SOIC, QUAD IC’s and discrete components plus
custom connectors
A professional drawing capability is provided by EdWin from
Visionics. Important facilities include
- Import NetList place components
- Auto route signals
- Multi page schematics
- Bus structure support
- Extensive libraries 12,000 devices
- Rubber band and Rats nest functions
- Block move and rotate
Optional facilities include Bill of Materials, PCB Layout,

EDSpice, EMC + Signal Integrity
- Icon driven
- Context sensitive help
- Unlimited number of clips and connectors
- Partial circuit learn and draw
- Repeat learn and verify
- Optimised clip movement
- Caters for digital and analogue circuits
- Guided probe for non-standard components
- Process can be suspended, restarted and terminated at
any stage
